Tragic Incident: Man Falls Overboard from Øysund in Boknafjord
A heartbreaking accident occurred on November 16, 2017, when a 54-year-old man from Bømlo fell overboard from the wellboat Øysund at 7:19 a.m. The emergency response team at the rescue center quickly received a Mayday alert from Bømlo Brønnbåtservice, part of Sølvtrans AS, after the incident took place in the Boknafjord. Authorities acted swiftly, and within 20 minutes, the crew aboard the wellboat managed to locate the man. He was subsequently airlifted to Haukeland University Hospital as he was in critical condition. Regrettably, at 10 a.m., the hospital confirmed the man's passing, marking a tragic outcome to a maritime emergency.
