On October 4, 2012, a significant maritime incident occurred at Port Klang when the MV Double Progress collided with the MV ER Turku at the outskirts of the pilotage district. The Port Klang Authority (PKA) has clarified that the collision was not a result of a malfunctioning very-high frequency (VHF) radio channel. Capt. David Padman, the general manager of PKA, reported that the MV Double Progress was approaching the pilot's station to take on a pilot before proceeding into port. At that time, the MV ER Turku was anchored approximately two miles from the pilot station. It was noted that the crew of both vessels had maintained communication on VHF channel 16 prior to the collision. However, Capt. Padman revealed that the master of the MV Double Progress admitted to a navigational error, resulting in the minor collision. He emphasized that adequate precautions were not taken to avert the incident, highlighting the importance of vigilance in vessel navigation to prevent such occurrences in the future.
