Saginaw Delays Departure from Thunder Bay Following Boom Collapse Incident
The Great Lakes cargo vessel Saginaw is extending its stay in Thunder Bay due to an unfortunate mishap involving its unloading boom. The incident occurred on New Year's Eve, when the 75-metre boom unexpectedly collapsed. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported. Currently, the 194-metre Saginaw is docked at Thunder Bay Terminals as repairs are undertaken. According to Tim Heney, CEO of the Thunder Bay Port Authority, the boom was not in operation for unloading cargo at the time of the failure; it was being repositioned to facilitate loading for the vessel, which has served for over six decades.
