Pirate Attack on Orkim Victory: Crew Held Hostage in South China Sea
In a dramatic turn of events, the crew of the Orkim Victory was taken hostage following a brazen hijacking by pirates just eight nautical miles from Pu Aur. The tanker, which has a deadweight tonnage of 7,119 dwt, was en route from Sungai Udang to Kuantan, Malaysia, when armed assailants boarded the vessel in the South China Sea, specifically near Pulau Aur. During the attack, the crew faced terrifying circumstances as the pirates siphoned off the ship's cargo of petroleum and systematically damaged all communication devices aboard the Orkim Victory. In addition to stealing the crew's belongings, the hijackers left the ship's team in a precarious position. Thankfully, the vessel was able to reach Kuantan safely on June 4, 2015, at 7 p.m., with all 18 crew members accounted for. The perpetrators of this maritime crime fled the scene and made their escape to Pulau Matek in the Anambas Islands Region.
