Tanker Collision in Heavy Ice on the Northern Sea Route
On November 12, 2015, at 11:34 PM, a maritime incident occurred in the Laptev Sea involving the tankers "Svytoy Petr" and "Svyatoy Pavel". The collision took place at coordinates 74 53N 133 50E while both vessels were navigating an ice convoy with the nuclear icebreaker "Vaygach" under challenging icy conditions. The incident resulted in significant damage to both tankers, with the "Svytoy Petr" sustaining a bulwark breach measuring 20 meters in length on its portside stern. Meanwhile, the "Svyatoy Pavel" suffered a five-meter crack in its starboard bow, measuring between 20 to 50 centimeters in width, located four meters above the waterline. Following the collision, the "Svyatoy Pavel" remained at the scene, while the "Svytoy Petr" was towed by the "Vaygach" towards Temp Bay.
