On March 5, 2017, at 1:30 a.m., the tanker 'Chrisopigi Lady' encountered a critical main engine failure nine miles from Punta de Caraminal off Tarifa in the Estrecho area. The vessel, which had departed from Milford Haven on February 28, was carrying a crew of 23. Fortunately, the Spanish salvage ship 'Luz der Mar' (IMO: 9320104) from Salvamento Marítimo was dispatched from Tarifa to provide assistance.
