On the morning of July 6, 2018, an incident involving the ferry 'Sansovino' caused significant disruption at Lampedusa Airport. While maneuvering to dock, the vessel accidentally collided with the pier, resulting in it shifting into a position that obstructed both incoming and outgoing flights due to the airport's proximity to the pier. This unexpected situation left the ferry with a hull breach but did not prevent it from ultimately departing the island later that afternoon, heading towards Porto Empedocle.

After a four-month hiatus, the ferry 'Sansovino' made its triumphant return to service, embarking from Empedocle on March 29.
