Medical Emergency at Sea: Sarocha Naree Crew Member Evacuated Near Gando
On September 9, 2021, a critical medical situation unfolded aboard the 'Sarocha Naree' as the vessel traveled from Tubarao to Las Palmas. Approximately 170 miles south of Gando, the ship's crew initiated a medical evacuation for an ailing member. The Centro de Coordinación de Salvamento Marítimo (CCS) in Las Palmas promptly responded by dispatching the SAR helicopter Helimer 204. The helicopter successfully hoisted the patient from the ship and transported him to Gando Airport (Las Palmas). Upon arrival, an ambulance was on standby to quickly transfer the individual to a hospital for further treatment, ensuring timely medical care in a challenging maritime situation.

On June 1, 2018, the bulk carrier 'Sarocha Naree' encountered a significant challenge as it ran aground while departing from Wilmington, North Carolina. The grounding occurred around 4 p.m. in the Cape Fear River estuary, precisely off the coast of Bald Head Island. In response to the emergency, two tugboats were deployed to the scene by 8 p.m. Thankfully, the vessel was successfully refloated thanks to the rising tide, achieving freedom at 2 a.m. on June 2.
