On August 24, 2023, a notable maritime incident occurred off the coast of Chittagong when the bulk carrier 'Chitral' (IMO: 9272876), en route with a cargo of 25,000 tonnes of imported clinker destined for Mongla Port, became entangled with the vessel 'Sarwar Jahan' at the outer anchorage. The unfortunate entanglement was attributed to adverse weather conditions, which caused the anchor chain of 'Sarwar Jahan' to wrap around the propeller of 'Chitral'. To mitigate the situation, the damaged propeller was successfully severed and removed on August 28, and as of now, the 'Chitral' has stabilized.
