On September 16, 2017, at 12:45 p.m., the cargo vessel 'SCA Östrand' accidentally released a substantial amount of hydraulic oil into the East Shore Port waters in Kiel. Swift action was taken by the crew, who promptly initiated containment efforts and notified the local fire brigade. Responding to the spill, firefighters deployed oil barriers to mitigate the impact.
