Working Conditions Aboard the Sea-Credence

In a significant development for Bangladesh’s maritime operations, a Chinese commercial ship, the MV Fortune Bird, has made its inaugural anchorage at Payra Sea Port. This milestone took place on Monday afternoon in the southwestern Patuakhali district. The official inauguration of the port is scheduled for August 13, as confirmed by the chairman of Payra Port Authority, Saidur Rahman. Unfortunately, due to adverse weather conditions, the vessel was unable to discharge its cargo of 53,000 tonnes of stone, primarily intended for the construction of the Padma Bridge, according to Captain Saidur. The arrival of MV Fortune Bird is just the beginning, with several other foreign vessels anticipated to dock at the port in the coming days. Rahman emphasized that unlike other ports dependent on high tides, Payra’s deep navigability allows ships to access the port at any hour of the day. This strategic advantage is expected to enhance shipping efficiency and boost economic activities in the region.
