Working Conditions Aboard the Sea-Hunter

On the morning of November 2, 2017, the Lerwick lifeboat and a Coastguard rescue helicopter responded swiftly to an emergency involving the fishing vessel 'Sea Hunter', which was taking on water due to a burst pipe. The incident occurred approximately two miles north of Bressay, prompting a distress call to the Coastguard at 7:30 a.m. An eight-member rescue team was dispatched alongside the Lerwick lifeboat and Coastguard rescue helicopter 900. By 7:50 a.m., the lifeboat reached the distressed vessel, followed closely by the helicopter at 8 a.m. The 'Sea Hunter' was successfully towed back to Lerwick harbour’s Greenhead base by the tug 'The Knab'. Coastguard crews then promptly utilized specialized equipment to pump the water out of the fishing vessel. The local fire rescue team was also standby to assist with the dewatering process.
