Sea Installer Completes Refurbishment at Damen Shiprepair Dunkerque
Damen Shiprepair Dunkerque (DSDu) successfully wrapped up an eight-day refurbishment of the 132-meter DP2, self-propelled jack-up vessel Sea Installer. This specialized vessel, operated by A2SEA and acquired in 2017 by DEME’s subsidiary GeoSea, was designed in 2012 for the pivotal role of installing large, next-generation wind turbines across Europe's coasts. According to the company’s press announcement, the primary objective during this stopover was the installation of new spud can shoes on the vessel’s four columnar legs. Each of these heavy-duty steel components weighs 160 tonnes, necessitating the use of advanced logistics, such as self-propelled modular transporters for positioning and a 700-tonne crawler crane for installation. During its drydock period, the Sea Installer also underwent significant preparatory work to readied it for its upcoming contract. This included extensive steelwork for the installation and stabilization of deck equipment, encompassing stairs, grillages, and containers. The upgrades will enhance the vessel's operational capabilities for future offshore wind projects.
