On June 5, 2023, the State Courts of the Republic of Singapore handed down a six-month prison sentence to Jeremy Koh Renfeng, a former officer connected to the controversial 'Sea Tanker II' case. Koh, 40, admitted guilt to two charges of obstructing justice, which included submitting false information in the vessel's official logbook and discarding a central processing unit (CPU) overboard. This incident is part of a broader scandal involving Koh's co-conspirators: Assistant Marine Superintendent Ong Chou Hong Aaron and Cargo Officer Tan Chun Kiat Benn, who received nine and six-month sentences respectively in February. The controversy began between October 26, 2018, and December 8, 2018, when Singaporean authorities were tipped off about the 'Sea Tanker II' allegedly engaging in illicit ship-to-ship transfers with vessels registered under the DPRK flag. Following this, on November 5, the Maritime Port Authority (MPA) sought documentation from Sea Hub Tankers, which included the official logbook and oil record book of the MT Sea Tanker II, alongside charter party agreements and bills of lading.
