Viking Grace Celebrates 1,000 LNG Bunkering Milestone
The M/S Viking Grace, an innovative vessel delivered in January 2013, has recently achieved a remarkable milestone in its environmental journey. This vessel was recognized worldwide as a trailblazer in eco-friendly maritime travel, becoming the first major passenger ship to operate on liquefied natural gas (LNG). Now, a mere three and a half years later, the Viking Grace has successfully completed its 1,000th LNG bunkering, a collaborative achievement with Swedish company AGA Gas AB. The milestone bunkering was facilitated by the M/S Seagas, a pioneer vessel created specifically for ship-to-ship refueling. This groundbreaking event took place while the Viking Grace was docked at Stadsgården in central Stockholm, where the Seagas supplied approximately 60 tonnes of LNG. As the world's first vessel of its type, the Seagas adheres to the same rigorous regulations that govern ocean-going LNG tankers. Viking Line aimed for a smooth bunkering process that would ensure prompt deliveries and seamless cargo handling at the quay. With AGA's safe LNG bunkering solution via the Seagas, these objectives were successfully met, emphasizing the critical importance of safety in this operation.
