Australia Pacific LNG Terminal Celebrates First LNG Shipment from Curtis Island Facility
Australia Pacific LNG (APLNG) officially began its operational journey by successfully dispatching its inaugural liquefied natural gas (LNG) cargo from the facility located on Curtis Island. This milestone was achieved aboard the Methane Spirit, marking a significant step forward for the APLNG project as announced in a recent statement. Initially, APLNG had aimed to export its first cargo by the end of 2015, but the startup experienced a brief delay. Prior to this, an attempt to load LNG onto the Magellan Spirit on December 12 proved unsuccessful. Although the Magellan Spirit had docked at the APLNG terminal, it could not lift the commissioning cargo at that moment. Subsequently, by December 25, the vessel shifted to the BG-operated Queensland Curtis LNG terminal adjacent to APLNG to successfully load a cargo. This transition led industry traders to speculate about a possible ship swap between BG and APLNG. As of the latest reports, the Magellan Spirit has been stationed offshore at Korea Gas Corp.'s Tongyeong LNG terminal.
