Seaven Start Grounds in Corinth Canal: Incident Report
On the evening of November 21, 2020, the cargo vessel 'Seaven Start,' while traveling from Piraeus to Volos, ran aground in the narrow expanse of the Corinth Canal. The ship, carrying a crew of 17, faced immediate challenges as it became stuck during its passage through the Isthmus. Fortunately, the situation was managed efficiently; a floating crane was deployed to detach the vessel, which was subsequently towed by a tugboat to an anchorage outside the canal. The 'Seaven Start' was later moved to the port of Corinth for thorough inspections. In response to the incident, the port authority has prohibited the ship from sailing until it receives an official seaworthiness certificate. Luckily, no crew members sustained injuries, and environmental assessments indicated that there were no signs of marine pollution resulting from the grounding.
