On Sunday morning, October 14, 2012, the M.V. Sedna Desgagne, a cargo ship primarily transporting iron, ran aground in the St. Lawrence Seaway adjacent to Prescott, Ontario. The 139-meter vessel, which had departed Montreal the previous evening, was en route to Chicago at the time of the incident. In response to the grounding, three investigators from the Transportation Safety Board of Canada have been deployed to the location to ascertain the cause of this occurrence. Luckily, overall Seaway traffic remains unaffected, though vessels are advised to operate at reduced speeds. The M.V. Sedna Desgagne is operated by the Montreal-based Groupe Degagnes.
