Chubu Electric Power Unveils New LNG Carrier: Seishu Maru
A significant milestone was marked on September 5 as Chubu Electric Power Co., Inc. unveiled its newest LNG vessel, named Seishu Maru, during a naming ceremony at Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Ltd.'s Nagasaki Shipyard & Machinery Works. This state-of-the-art vessel is part of a strategic partnership involving Trans Pacific Shipping 1 Ltd., which encompasses industry giants Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (NYK), Chubu Electric Power, and Mitsubishi Corporation (MC). The ceremonial event was graced by Toshio Mita, the chairman of Chubu Electric Power, who bestowed the name 'Seishu Maru' in honor of the historical name for the northern and central regions of Mie prefecture, where the company’s LNG terminals are situated. Mita's wife played a significant role in the ceremony by cutting the ceremonial rope that signaled the ship's official launch into the maritime world. In addition to Mita, NYK's chairman, Koji Miyahara, was present to mark this special occasion. Upon its delivery, Seishu Maru will be jointly operated by NYK, MC, and Chubu Electric Power, playing a crucial role in the transportation of LNG for various projects in Australia and North America. This vessel not only enhances the capabilities of the joint venture but also signifies a continued commitment to sustainable energy solutions in the global market.
