Engine Failure Grounds Selbjørnsfjord Ferry Near Tysnes
On April 21, 2015, at 5:52 p.m., the ferry 'Selbjørnsfjord,' which operates between Halhjem and Minke in Tysnes, experienced a significant engine failure. This incident occurred off the islet Gjerslingane near Våge, leaving the vessel disabled. At the time, it was making minimal progress at a speed of just 0.2 knots but fortunately did not run aground. The lifeboat 'Bjarne Kyrkjebø' and the passenger ferry 'Rygercruise' were promptly dispatched to the scene and successfully towed the ferry back to Våge, reaching the dock by 7:40 p.m. The lifeboat 'Kristian Gerhard Jebsen' was also put on standby. A total of 31 passengers and six crew members were on board during the incident. Divers were subsequently called in to inspect the ferry's hull for any potential damage. As a precaution, all ferry operations on the Halhjem-Minke route were suspended until further notice. The 'Selbjørnsfjord' was eventually docked at the Bergen Group BMV port. Following the incident, alternative services were introduced, with the 'Heilhorn' beginning its route on Halhjem-Minke at 6:10 p.m. on April 22 and the 'Sundferja' operating on the Husavik-Sandviksvåg route at 5:15 p.m. For more detailed accounts, refer to Norwegian sources with accompanying photographs: [BA.no](http://www.ba.no/Ferge_har_f_tt_motorstopp_og_driver_inntil_skj_r-5-8-59614.html), [TV2](http://www.tv2.no/a/6830488), [Aftenposten](http://www.aftenposten.no/nyheter/iriks/Ferge-pa-grunn-ved-Tysnes-7989818.html).
Technical Failure Leads Ferry Selbjørnfjord to Collide with Falkås in Våge
On January 21, 2015, around noon, the ferry Selbjørnfjord encountered a technical issue that resulted in a collision with the stern of the Falkås at the Våge quay. As the ferry approached the dock, the malfunction occurred unexpectedly. Fortunately, the 19 passengers aboard were alerted through the public announcement system to brace for impact, and there were no injuries reported. The Selbjørnfjord sustained minor damage, while the Falkås suffered a breach at its stern, leading to some damage to the quay as well. The sand skate experienced controlled water ingress, effectively managed by the crew of five. To cover the ferry's routes, the Marstein was brought in, making its first departure from Halhjem at 3:30 p.m. Following the incident, divers conducted inspections of the Selbjørnfjord, and technical investigations regarding the blackout were initiated while the vessel remained sidelined.
