On February 27, 2012, the cargo vessel 'Selene Prahm,' carrying 2,400 tons of fertilizer from Terneuzen to Sanders, encountered difficulties that led to its grounding in the Kiel Sound near buoy 6 off Laboe. The incident was triggered by a malfunction with the ship’s rudder, causing it to veer unexpectedly to starboard while navigating towards the open sea. Rescue operations began promptly, with the multipurpose ship 'Scharhörn' and the tugboat 'Holtenau' dispatched to assist in the recovery efforts after initial attempts to refloat the vessel were unsuccessful. By 9 p.m., the 'Holtenau' successfully freed the 'Selene Prahm' from the sandbar and towed it back to Scheer Port in Kiel. The ship reached its berth at approximately 9:30 p.m., where it underwent investigations by the water police and technical surveys.
