Transmed Acquires Trio of Kamsarmax Vessels from Nisshin Shipping
Nisshin Shipping is making headlines as it continues its strategic pullback from the dry bulk market. In a recent development, the Japanese shipping company has secured a deal with the Greek firm Transmed for the sale of three Kamsarmax vessels. The ships in question β Mangan Trader I, Mangan Trader II, and Mangan Trader III β were sold as a single package for an impressive $16.75 million each. Built in 2013 at the prestigious Hyundai Samho shipyard, each vessel boasts a length overall (LOA) of 235 meters. This sale marks yet another step in Nisshin's significant reduction of its dry bulk fleet, positioning the company among the top five sellers in the dry bulk segment this year. As Nisshin Shipping streamlines its operations, these transactions continue to reshape the competitive landscape of the maritime industry.
Significant Maritime Collision Near Ostend: Alkiviadis and Mangan Trader II Involved
On the afternoon of August 5, 2015, a notable maritime incident occurred approximately 17 miles northwest of Ostend when the tanker m/v 'Alkiviadis' collided with the bulk carrier 'Mangan Trader II.' The 'Alkiviadis,' arriving from Tallinn, was anchored and awaiting departure orders to sail to Antwerp. Meanwhile, the 'Mangan Trader II' was en route to the Western Scheldt, aiming for Ghent. The collision was attributed to a malfunction in the steering gear of the 'Mangan Trader II.' As a result of the impact, the 'Alkiviadis' sustained damage above the waterline in one of its ballast tanks. Following the incident, the 'Mangan Trader II' was temporarily detained but, after a thorough inspection, was cleared to continue its journey. The ship successfully reached Terneuzen by 3 a.m. on August 6 and docked in Ghent at 7 a.m. Conversely, the 'Alkiviadis' remained anchored to carry out necessary repairs on the breach and subsequently resumed its voyage, docking at Dock 6 in Antwerp at 5 a.m. on the same day.
