In a significant achievement for the Australian energy sector, the inaugural shipment of liquefied natural gas (LNG) has successfully departed from the Santos GLNG facility located on Curtis Island in Queensland. This landmark event is part of the impressive US$18.5 billion Santos GLNG project, which commenced construction in 2011. This shipment not only highlights the capabilities of the Santos GLNG project but also reinforces Australia's position in the global energy market.

Singapore LNG Corporation Launches First Vessel Cool-Down Service with MISC

Oct 11, 2013 11:12

In a significant milestone, Singapore LNG Corporation (SLNG) has successfully executed its inaugural vessel cool-down service, marking a groundbreaking collaboration with Malaysian shipping giant MISC. This pivotal agreement lays the foundation for SLNG’s service offerings in vessel cool-down operations. The first vessel to benefit from this service was the Seri Bakti, one of MISC’s state-of-the-art LNG carriers. Since commencing commercial operations on May 7, 2013, SLNG has played a vital role in supporting LNG shipments, providing essential throughput services for vessels transporting liquefied natural gas (LNG) at extremely low temperatures of approximately -160°C. The cool-down process is critical—it prepares cargo tanks and lines by lowering their temperature prior to receiving cryogenic LNG. This pre-cooling operation is accomplished through an innovative method that involves spraying LNG into the cargo tanks using specialized nozzles, utilizing LNG directly sourced from the shore terminal. The implementation of this service is set to enhance operational efficiencies and ensure safe handling of LNG shipments in the region.
