The Maritime Authority of Suriname has issued an important Notice to Mariners regarding seismic research activities scheduled to take place off the nation’s coast. From June 7 to August 12, 2019, the research vessel HARRIER EXPLORER will undertake a seismic survey approximately 150 nautical miles offshore. This operation will involve the vessel towing a seismic cable measuring 12.1 kilometers in length. All maritime traffic is advised to maintain a safe distance of at least 8 nautical miles from the HARRIER EXPLORER, which will be restricted in maneuverability and will display the appropriate signals during its operations. The support vessel SHANNON will assist during this survey. To ensure safe navigation, communication can be maintained via VHF channels 16 and 68. Mariners are urged to take this notice seriously and to stay vigilant during this period of heightened activity.
