Shi Zi Feng Grounded in Chattogram Harbour Channel

May 30, 2024 09:51

On May 28, 2024, at approximately 1:15 p.m., the Chinese-flagged vessel 'Shi Zi Feng' ran aground in the harbour channel while navigating back to the Chattogram port's jetty. This incident occurred in the Karnaphuli River, near the boat club. The vessel encountered a steering malfunction which led to its propeller colliding with the Gupta buoy located opposite the Patenga container terminal, resulting in damage to the propeller. Fortunately, the grounding did not obstruct other ships operating in the port. Prior to this incident, on May 26, in response to a distress signal number 9 issued by the Bangladesh Meteorological Department due to Cyclone Remal, 19 ships, including the 'Shi Zi Feng', were directed into deep water from the port jetty. As conditions improved, these vessels began their return to the jetty. Armed Robbers Raid 'Shi Zi Shan' Off the Coast of Venezuela

Oct 25, 2018 10:30

On October 14, 2018, at precisely 12:20 a.m., the cargo ship 'Shi Zi Shan,' identified by its IMO number, was targeted by four armed assailants while anchored at the Puerto Jose anchorage, positioned at 10°11'N, 064°51'W. The perpetrators, clad in uniforms bearing national guard insignia, approached the vessel's port gangway in a small boat and demanded entry under the pretense of conducting an anti-narcotic inspection. As they boarded, the robbers threatened the on-duty crew member with firearms and forcibly commanded him to guide them to the captain's cabin. In a show of intimidation, the assailants ordered the entire crew to gather in a communal lounge area, where they were instructed to hand over all cash and valuables for inspection. Despite the alarming circumstances, the crew complied with the robbers' demands, leading to the loss of personal belongings. This alarming incident highlights the increasing dangers faced by maritime operators in the region and raises concerns about safety protocols for vessels operating in high-risk areas.
