Shinchi Maru Arrives at Soma Port, Boosting Coal Transport Efficiency
On July 30, a special ceremony took place at the Soma port located in Fukushima prefecture, celebrating the arrival of a new coal carrier, Shinchi Maru, as announced by NYK Line in a recent press release. Officially delivered in March 2023, this state-of-the-art vessel replaces the earlier Shinchi Maru ship, which had been in service since 1995. The modern Shinchi Maru is set to transport coal from Newcastle, Australia, to the Shinchi power plant run by Soma Kyodo Power Company Ltd. Notably, the vessel's name reflects its connection to the power plant’s locale. To honor the ship's arrival, Mr. Ono, director and chief of the Shinchi power plant, presented the ship’s captain with a beautifully crafted plate of Aizu lacquerware, a treasured product of the Fukushima region. In alignment with NYK’s “More Than Shipping 2018” medium-term management strategy, the company is committed to exploring innovative solutions that ensure reliable and economically efficient coal transport.
