On the night of August 15, 2019, the ferry Sicilia, which is part of the Málaga-Melilla service, was implicated in a substantial oil spill while transferring fuel in the harbor of Málaga. A critical human error led to the leakage of approximately 8,000 to 9,000 liters of fuel oil into the coastal waters. Following the incident, the Sicilia departed Málaga at 1:50 a.m. on August 16, heading towards its destination of Melilla.

However, they will soon transition to the more eco-friendly 9L51/60DF units, allowing them to operate on liquefied natural gas (LNG).
