On March 13, 2015, UK authorities initiated an investigation following the tragic deaths of two crew members aboard the cargo vessel 'Sally Ann C.' The incident occurred while the ship was navigating off the coast of Senegal, en route to Dakar with a timber shipment. The chief officer and chief engineer were found unresponsive in the ship's cargo hold under alarming circumstances. Efforts to assist them were made by the second officer, who also subsequently collapsed but was revived. In response to this incident, Carisbrooke Shipping announced that it is implementing extensive preventative measures fleet-wide, while concurrently seeking to uncover the factors that contributed to this tragedy. The UK’s Marine Accident Investigation Board (MAIB) has confirmed that an inquiry is currently underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the fatalities.
