Incident Involving SIDER MONICA: Towing Cable Mishap at Puerto Cabello
On July 22, 2010, a maritime incident occurred involving the Panama-flagged tanker m/v New Horizons (IMO 5371583) and the vessel SIDER MONICA (IMO 9432517). During the operation, SIDER MONICA, while approaching the pilot station of Puerto Cabello at a speed of 10 knots, inadvertently sheared off the towing cable attached to the New Horizons, which was in the process of being towed out of the anchorage. Despite port control's request for SIDER MONICA to reduce speed, the vessel failed to comply. Following the mishap, SIDER MONICA sustained damage to its rudder and propeller due to the towing cable. To facilitate its return to port, the SIDER MONICA was subsequently towed in by three tugboats. By July 23, the vessel was safely berthed in port, continuing its operations post-incident.
