On the evening of November 30, 2015, the trawler 'Stefnir' experienced a collision with an iceberg while navigating west of Dýrafirði, Iceland. The vessel successfully returned to the port of Ísafjörður the following morning, December 1. Captain Peter Birgisson later admitted that he had misjudged the presence of ice in the shallow waters he was traversing in darkness. Fortunately, the trawler was traveling at a mere three knots, minimizing the impact. After the collision, the crew attempted to reverse the ship, even as fishing gear remained deployed behind the trawler, raising concerns about potential entanglement with the propeller. The collision left a noticeable dent in the ship's hull above the waterline, and pieces of the iceberg were dislodged, landing on the stern and later taken ashore. In a prompt response, the captain notified the Coast Guard command center regarding the icebergs in the area and issued a warning broadcast.
