On August 24, 2021, a group of Greenpeace activists made headlines by staging a protest against the offshore support vessel 'Siem Day' at Randaberg harbour, Norway. The demonstration was prompted by concerns over fossil fuel companies delaying the installation of an oil drilling apparatus in UK waters. Two brave Greenpeace kayakers positioned themselves next to the Siem Day, emphasizing their message that launching new oil fields is incompatible with the goal of achieving net zero emissions by 2050, as per analysis from the International Energy Agency. The Siccar Point company, which is in partnership with Shell, has held a license for a block in the North Atlantic since 2001, previously conducting test drilling in the Cambo field. Currently, they are awaiting approval from the UK Oil and Gas Authority to commence full operations, with plans to extract an estimated 170 million barrels of oil. On August 5, Petrofac issued a notification to mariners regarding plans to install equipment for drilling in the Cambo oil field, with work scheduled to commence on August 25 for a duration of ten days. The 'Siem Day' vessel, which arrived at Randaberg harbour on August 21, is set to depart on August 26 at 10:25 a.m. towards the Cambo field.
