Siem Offshore Secures New AHTS Charter with Woodside Energy in Australia
Siem Offshore has successfully landed a new charter for its anchor handling tug supply (AHTS) vessel, the Siem Topaz, from Woodside Energy, marking another milestone in their ongoing collaboration. The vessel, which boasts an impressive 28,000 bhp and was built in 2010, will commence the 18-month contract in May, although the financial details of the agreement remain undisclosed. This new contract follows the earlier engagement of the Siem Amethyst, another AHTS vessel from Siem Offshore, which began working with Woodside Energy in November 2015. The Siem Amethyst, also rated at 28,000 bhp but built in 2011, is slated to wrap up its current contract in August 2016, with options available for Woodside to extend the engagement for two additional six-month periods. The Siem Topaz has maintained a solid operational record primarily in the North Sea, where it recently completed a brief 14-day contract with Nexen. Presently, AIS data indicates that the vessel is en route from Eydehavn, Norway, to the Suez Canal, demonstrating its continued activity in various maritime engagements. Notably, five out of Siem Offshore's ten AHTS vessels are currently in lay-up in Norway, highlighting the fluctuating demands within the offshore industry.
