On March 2, 2019, the esteemed Coast Guard of Porto Empedocle took decisive action by detaining the cargo vessel 'Silver Lion' following a Port State Control inspection. The inspection was spearheaded by Captain Fregata Gennaro Fusco and uncovered the vessel's failure to meet established international maritime safety standards. The 'Silver Lion,' which sought refuge in Porto Empedocle due to adverse weather conditions, displayed critical deficiencies, particularly in its bilge water separation system. In addition to this, issues related to the auxiliary emergency generator and the overall quality of the ship's safety management system were also identified.
