Silver Pearl Runs Aground Near Måløy: A Nighttime Incident
In the early hours of April 10, 2016, the bulk carrier 'Silver Pearl' grounded on the eastern side of the Ulve Sound within the Vågsøy municipality. The incident occurred at approximately 4 a.m. as the vessel navigated north towards a sardine processing facility located at Trollebø. The ship became stuck due to a suspected technical malfunction in its engine. The situation required the 'Silver Pearl' to wait for the tide's rise, which ultimately allowed for refloating at 11 a.m. with assistance from the tugboats 'Stadt Aardal' and 'BB Supporter.' Following the successful refloating operation, the vessel was safely docked in Måløy. Fortunately, the crew onboard, consisting of 13 members, reported no injuries during the incident. Additionally, rescue operations were also supported by the lifeboat 'Simrad Buholmen' and the Norwegian Coast Guard vessel 'Njord.'
