The Simon-B: Crew Feedback and Vessel Data

On October 19, the Court of Aalborg issued a sentence against the 33-year-old Dutch captain of the vessel 'Simon B' for operating the ship under the influence of alcohol. The captain received a 20-day prison sentence and was fined 10,000 Danish crowns. Additionally, he has been banned from navigating ships in Danish waters for a period of one year. The incident occurred on July 10, when the 'Simon B' collided with a dock in Aalborg. Authorities discovered the captain visibly intoxicated on the bridge. Initial tests revealed a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of 2.07 per mille, which later escalated to 2.45 per mille following a more comprehensive analysis. Notably, the captain did not attend the court proceedings, and his case was addressed in his absence by his lawyer. Despite denying guilt, the captain has been unable to clarify the discrepancy in his alcohol levels.

On January 18, 2015, at approximately 4 p.m., the vessel 'Simon B' experienced an allision with fairway buoy 3 while navigating a berthing maneuver in the Stralsund area. The ship was arriving from Kolding when strong currents caused it to collide with the buoy, resulting in visible scratches and a dented radar reflector on the buoy, as well as minor damage to the ship's port side. Following the incident, the captain attributed the mishap to the force of the current pushing against the vessel. After necessary assessments, 'Simon B' was cleared for departure and set sail for Hobro on January 19 at 3:30 p.m.

In the early hours of July 10, 2014, the coaster 'Simon B' experienced significant challenges while attempting to dock in Aalborg after departing from Varberg. At approximately 4 a.m., the vessel initially missed its assigned docking slot, prompting port authorities to designate an alternative berth for the ship. Despite efforts to secure the vessel, it ultimately collided with the quay during the docking process. Fortunately, the damage was minimal, but the situation escalated, leading port officials to involve the North Jutland Police. Upon arrival, the authorities administered a breathalyzer test to the captain, revealing an alarming blood alcohol content of 2.07 per thousand. Subsequently, a blood sample was taken to confirm the captain's alcohol level at the time of navigation. Facing severe repercussions, the captain is expected to incur a substantial fine and was taken into custody by local law enforcement.
