The Skandi-Gamma: Crew Feedback and Vessel Data

Norwegian offshore service vessel operator DOF has successfully landed a significant two-year contract with a prominent North Sea operator. The contract involves the deployment of the Skandi Gamma, a platform supply vessel built in 2011. Operations are anticipated to kick off in the first quarter of this year, reinforcing DOF's position in the competitive maritime sector.

In an exciting development for the maritime industry, DOF announced today that its LNG-powered platform supply vessel (PSV), the Skandi Gamma, will continue its operations under a renewed contract with Statoil. This agreement extends the vessel's service for an additional year, set to begin in February 2015. The Skandi Gamma, which boasts a deadweight tonnage of 4,753 tons, was constructed in 2011 and features the innovative STX PSV 06 design. This impressive vessel is powered by three Wärtsilä 6L34DF engines, ensuring efficiency and reliability in its operations. Additionally, DOF has secured a six-month contract extension for another vessel, the Skandi Caledonia, in partnership with Maersk UK, starting this October 2015. This reinforces DOF's commitment to providing sustainable and capable maritime solutions.

In a surprising turn of events last week, the supply vessel "Skandi Gamma" experienced a significant engine failure while docked next to the Marshall Islands-flagged oil rig "Stena Don" (IMO: 8764418) in the Troll oil field, located at coordinates 60°51.00’N 03°34.90’E. This unexpected engine blackout caused the "Skandi Gamma" to drift uncontrollably, resulting in a collision that breached a ballast tank on the rig. The "Skandi Gamma," which set sail from Florö on September 12, 2014, successfully made its way to the port of Leirvik on September 16, after the incident.
