In a significant development, three anchor handling supply vessels have secured spot contracts from ConocoPhillips UK to assist in the repositioning of the SEDCO 712 platform, owned by Transocean. Reports from broker Westshore indicate that the SEDCO 712 is set to play a crucial role in a new contract to plug and abandon offshore oil wells in the British sector of the North Sea, a project expected to span at least 12 months. Among the vessels involved, Havila Shipping’s HAVILA VENUS, boasting a power output of 25,432 bhp, has been fixed at a daily rate of £8,500 for a two-week assignment that includes provision for a remotely operated vehicle (ROV). Although this rate is slightly below the monthly average Westshore has documented for AHTS vessels exceeding 18,000 bhp, it reflects the current market dynamics. In addition, the STRIL CHALLENGER, operated by Simon Møkster Shipping and rated at 17,250 bhp, has secured the identical rate of £8,500 for the same duration. Meanwhile, the PACIFIC CHAMPION, a vessel from Swire Pacific Offshore with a capacity of 16,314 bhp, has been appointed for £7,000 per day over the 14-day period, which also falls slightly below the average spot rate reported by Westshore for AHTS vessels within the 15,000 to 17,999 bhp range during October. These engagements highlight the ongoing activity in the North Sea region as companies continue to seek specialized vessels for essential offshore operations.
