Sailors aboard the 'Maersk Nexus', stationed in St. John's, are expressing heightened concerns regarding their health and safety in light of the provincial government's recent decision. This approval permits four American technicians to join the vessel without the necessity of self-isolating upon their arrival. A number of crew members have voiced their objections to this move, particularly as the ship is set to journey to Quebec for maintenance next month. The technicians, from Oil States Industries, are arriving from Texas—currently experiencing a significant surge in COVID-19 cases, comparable only to Florida. According to a Maersk executive, the technicians are scheduled to land in St. John's on August 11, 2020, where they will head directly to their hotel for testing. They must receive a negative COVID-19 test result before being allowed to board the 'Maersk Nexus', which is anticipated to sail towards a shipyard in Les Méchins, Quebec, on August 12.
