On August 11, 2014, a crew member aboard the 'Normand Skipper' experienced a medical emergency while on duty at the port of Ijmuiden, suffering a heart attack. The incident occurred as he collapsed on the roof of the wheelhouse, approximately 15 meters above the quay. In a coordinated rescue effort, the crew used the ship's crane to lower the man from the deck to safety. Emergency services, including ambulance personnel and the Royal Military Police, were quickly notified. A colleague skillfully operated the crane to hoist the stretcher containing the affected crew member onto the quay, while local firefighters took precautionary measures with two ropes to stabilize the stretcher against the windy conditions. Following the successful transfer, the crew member was promptly transported by ambulance to the Medical Center Alkmaar for further medical attention.
