Working Conditions Aboard the Smyril

In a strategic move, the Faroe Island ferry operator Strandfaraskip Landsins (SSL) has secured a charter for the Greek-owned vessel PRINCE. This temporary arrangement comes as the ferry SMYRIL takes its annual trip for drydocking, ensuring continuity of service on the vital Tvøroyri-Tórshavn route. The PRINCE will serve as a reliable alternative during this maintenance period, allowing SSL to maintain transportation linkages critical to the region.

Blue Water Shipping successfully orchestrated the delivery of an exchange engine to the "Smyril," which experienced significant damage to one of its four engines, necessitating its replacement. The logistical operation began at the engine manufacturer Wärtsilä's facility in Finland, from where the engine was transported. On February 2, 2014, the engine was loaded onto a specialized trailer in Hirtshals before being placed aboard the roro ferry "Mistral" at the Northsea Terminal. The vessel then promptly delivered the new engine to the Mest Yard in Thorshavn on February 4.
