SNAV Virgo Allides with Dock in Capri: Investigations Underway
In the early hours of October 2, 2024, the ferry 'SNAV Virgo', which was making its way from Castellammare, encountered a technical issue while attempting to dock at the port of M.Grandle in Capri. The vessel, carrying around 200 passengers—predominantly daily commuters heading to the island for work—struck the dock. Fortunately, there were no reported injuries as a result of the incident. The Coast Guard of Capri has initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the allision. Following the incident, the ship was temporarily taken out of service to undergo a thorough inspection conducted by RINA technicians based in Naples. Although the pier sustained minor damage, operations resumed for the 'SNAV Virgo' in the early afternoon. Ferry Incident at San Nicola Port: 'Isola di Capreia' Grounded on Breakwater
On May 24 at 11 a.m., an unfortunate maneuver led to the ferry 'Isola di Capreia' running aground on the breakwater near the port of San Nicola, located in the scenic Tremiti Islands. The incident occurred during its docking process due to an unforeseen technical issue that caused the vessel to become unresponsive to the captain's steering commands. In a bid to mitigate the impact, the captain deployed the anchors, resulting in a reduced collision force, which only caused minor damage to the vessel's bow. Thankfully, the ferry was able to refloat itself and continued its journey back to Termoli later that afternoon. The 'Isola di Capreia' successfully arrived at Termoli port at around 6:15 p.m. For more detailed coverage, including photos and a video of the incident, visit the Italian news source: https://www.primonumero.it/2020/05/manovra-imprevista-durante-lattracco-motonave-tirrenia-si-arena-sugli-scogli/1530613469/
