In an astonishing discovery, a previously unknown shipwreck has been uncovered approximately 120 kilometers off the Karratha coast, as a group of marine scientists on the research vessel "Solander" conducted routine mapping operations. On their expedition in early April, researchers from the Australian Institute of Marine Science (AIMS) detected the enigmatic wreckage while navigating between survey sites aimed at charting the ocean floor. The captain initially spotted the unusual object on their echosounder, sparking curiosity among the team. Upon returning to the location for further analysis, they utilized advanced multi-beam survey technology onboard to gather detailed mappings of the wreck. The ship, measuring about 37 meters in length and constructed of metal, lies submerged in waters 60 meters deep and exhibits a design characteristic of the post-1900s period. Although the vessel remains unidentified at this time, comprehensive data—including its precise location, a multi-beam survey map, and video evidence—has been submitted to the Western Australia Museum for further examination. The Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) has confirmed that the wreck poses no safety threat.
