Successful Nighttime Fire Extinguishing Operation on Lumber Ship Hala B

Feb 28, 2019 13:06

A significant fire incident aboard the lumber-laden vessel "Hala B" was expertly managed by firefighters who completed operations in the early hours of February 27. The fire erupted around 6 p.m. on February 26 in the compartments adjacent to the engine room. Prompt action was taken by the Port Authority in partnership with the Coast Guard of Chioggia to safely evacuate all 18 crew members. To combat the blaze, six tugboats and a Fire Brigade vessel were deployed to the scene. These tugs utilized water cannons to cool the ship's hull, effectively controlling the fire's spread and gradually reducing it to a few isolated hotspots. By 1:15 a.m. on February 27, personnel from the Provincial Command of the Fire Brigade of Venice boarded the vessel, working diligently until they extinguished the last of the flames around 3:30 a.m. Throughout the night and into the morning, Coast Guard vessels "CP 287", "CP 826", and "CP 541", along with the "Nemo 11" helicopter from the Nucleo Aereo di Pescara, conducted thorough surveillance of the ship and its vicinity to ensure the absence of navigation hazards and potential pollution, all of which remained clear.
