Longshoreman Rescued After 60-Foot Fall into Cargo Hold in New Orleans
On October 12, 2021, a dramatic rescue unfolded at the Poland Ave. Wharf in New Orleans when a longshoreman plunged 60 feet into the cargo hold of the vessel 'St. George.' The local fire department responded swiftly, dispatching eight units and 23 personnel to the incident site at approximately 5:40 p.m. Firefighters executed a high-angle rescue by rappelling into the ship's hull equipped with a spine board and other essential rescue gear. Fortunately, the injured man maintained consciousness and was able to communicate with the rescuers throughout the operation. Thankfully, he sustained only a broken arm. Captain Rescued from 'St. George' During Voyage Near Huelva
On April 13, 2021, maritime operations unfolded off the coast of Huelva when the 'St. George', a vessel on its way from Norfolk to Gibraltar, found itself 90 nautical miles from the Spanish coast. While navigating the approach to the Strait of Gibraltar from the west, the captain of the ship initiated a medical evacuation. In response, the CCS Tarifa swiftly deployed the Helimer 207 helicopter, which successfully hoisted the ill captain. The helicopter transported him to Jerez, where he was met by an ambulance that took him to the Seguridad Nautica Hospital for medical treatment. Following the incident, the 'St. George' safely docked at Gibraltar Anchorage West on April 14, positioned at 36Β° 7.39' N, 005Β° 21.92' W.
