Incident Involving SBI Carioca at Belledune Port
On October 11, 2017, at approximately 8 a.m., the bulk carrier SBI Carioca, carrying a substantial load of 65,000 tons of petcoke, ran aground in the waters of Belledune, New Brunswick, located in the Gulf of St. Lawrence. The vessel encountered difficulties as it became lodged on the muddy seabed but fortunately suffered no damage during the incident. After intensive efforts, the SBI Carioca was successfully refloated later that evening and subsequently secured near the grounding site for further investigations. The ship had traveled to Belledune from Norfolk, USA, prior to the mishap.
