Star Bulk Carriers Expands Fleet Through Strategic Acquisition

Star Bulk Carriers, a prominent player on the US stock market, has made significant strides by acquiring Oslo-listed Songa Bulk. This deal adds an impressive fleet of 15 modern vessels to Star Bulk's operations, including 3 Capesize bulkers, 10 Kamsarmax bulkers, 1 Ultramax bulker, and 1 Supramax bulker. The transaction involves the issuance of 13.7 million new shares and a cash payment of USD 145 million for the fleet. Financing for the cash component will be provided by China Merchants Bank Leasing. Additionally, Star Bulk has confirmed the acquisition of three Newcastlemax bulkers currently under construction at SWS, projected for delivery in the fourth quarter of 2018 and the first quarter of 2019, from OceanBulk Container Carriers. To facilitate this purchase, Star Bulk will issue 3.39 million new shares, while CSSC Shipping Company will contribute USD 104.4 million for the acquisition of the three bulk carriers.
