Damen Verolme Rotterdam (DVR), recognized as a premier facility within the Damen Shipyards Group, has officially been awarded a significant refit project by Stena Drilling for their iconic drilling rig, Stena Don. The rig is scheduled to dock at DVR in October 2018, where it will undergo approximately three months of extensive refurbishment. Keppel Verolme BV, a subsidiary of Keppel Offshore & Marine Limited based in the Netherlands, has signed a contract with Stena Drilling Ltd, marking another collaboration with the esteemed company. The project focuses on refurbishing and upgrading the STENA DON, a semisubmersible designed for harsh environments, as it approaches its midlife phase. This upgrade, essential for maintaining operational excellence, includes extensive maintenance and renewal of its drilling equipment and accommodation facilities. In addition to these improvements, the rig will partake in its scheduled Special Periodic Survey (SPS), undergo crucial maintenance works, and complete thruster overhauls alongside a comprehensive painting program.
