Stena Line has announced the cancellation of its livestock transport services from Rosslare, County Wexford, to Cherbourg for an additional week. The 'Stena Horizon' entered dry dock in Belfast on March 29, with an initial plan to resume operations by April 12. However, the return to service has been postponed to April 19, with sailing set to recommence on April 26. During this maintenance period, Stena Line will not facilitate the transport of livestock from Rosslare to Cherbourg. This service is particularly vital at this time of year as the ferry typically carries trucks loaded with Irish calves to a lairage in Cherbourg, where the animals are rested and fed before continuing on to their new homes across mainland Europe.

In a dramatic turn of events on February 25, 2021, two individuals were successfully rescued after falling overboard from the Stena Horizon ferry as it neared Belfast Harbour at approximately 6:45 p.m. Quick-thinking rescue crews from two nearby ferries, the Stena Horizon and the Stena Superfast VIII, were deployed to the scene to assist in the rescue. Emergency services were promptly activated, with the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service sending two Rapid Response Paramedics, two Emergency Crews, and three HART Officers, who arrived at the location by 7 p.m. Following a thorough initial assessment and treatment at the dockside in Belfast, one of the rescued individuals, a child, was transported to the Royal Children’s Hospital, while an adult was taken to the Royal Victoria Hospital’s emergency department for further evaluation. Stena Line has notified all appropriate authorities regarding the incident and is cooperating fully with ongoing investigations, which have also been reported to the Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI).

The 'Stena Horizon' has been anchored off the coast of Anglesey for several days at position 53° 22.40' N 004° 12.11' W following a recent Covid-19 outbreak among its crew. However, positive news is on the horizon as the entire crew has tested negative for the virus for a second time. After seven crew members initially tested positive, the remaining staff of 52 had to undergo self-isolation measures. During this time, these crew members either stayed at the Holyhead Travelodge, returned to their local residences, or remained aboard the ferry to comply with isolation guidelines. Fortunately, after a second round of testing, all crew members returned negative results. Their mandated 14-day isolation period is set to conclude on November 19. Stena Line is currently in communication with public health authorities in both Wales and Ireland, with the goal of putting the vessel back into operation as swiftly as possible. The 'Stena Horizon' could potentially resume its route to Rosslare as early as November 20, potentially reinstating services over the weekend.
