Stena Bulk Achieves SEK 65 Million Savings through Enhanced Efficiency Initiatives

Jun 29, 2013 08:08

In an ambitious move to bolster energy efficiency, Stena Bulk launched a transformative project at the beginning of 2013, focusing not just on traditional energy-saving methods but also incorporating a broader commercial and operational perspective. This initiative aims to optimize the balance between freight transport and bunker fuel usage. The company anticipates that these efficiency improvements will significantly reduce its environmental footprint, projecting a decrease in sulphur oxide emissions by approximately 1,400 metric tons within the year. According to a recent press release, the company estimates that half of the annual savings totaling SEK 65 million can be attributed to technological advancements, while the other half stems from operational and commercial enhancements. Stena Bulk Unveils Eco-Friendly Suezmax Tanker, Stena Superior

Nov 29, 2011 11:11

In a significant advancement for environmentally-sustainable shipping, Stena Bulk, headquartered in Gothenburg, has proudly launched its latest innovation, the Stena Superior. This new Suezmax tanker, constructed at Samsung Heavy Industries in South Korea, is the inaugural vessel in a remarkable series of seven tankers, each boasting a deadweight tonnage of 158,700 dwt and exceptional energy efficiency. The Stena Superior is equipped with advanced fuel-saving technologies, including optimized hull lines, a larger diameter propeller, a bulb rudder, an electronically-controlled de-rated main engine, and energy-saving fins integrated into the hull design. These innovations enable the vessel to achieve at least 15% lower bunker consumption compared to the most efficient conventional Suezmax tankers currently active. Measuring an impressive 274.23 meters in length and 48 meters in beam, the Stena Superior stands as the largest tanker within Stena Bulk's fleet. The total investment for this newbuilding amounts to $67.4 million, which encompasses approximately $4.5 million allocated for upgrades ensuring a 40-year fatigue life, alongside an additional $2.5 million dedicated to fuel-saving systems and environmental enhancements.

Inaugural Suezmax Tanker 'Stena Superior' Launched at Samsung Heavy Industries
