Working Conditions Aboard the Stril-Herkules

On October 16, 2016, the offshore vessel 'Stril Herkules' was activated, alongside two search and rescue helicopters, in response to a fire on the Statfjord A platform situated in the North Sea. The incident unfolded at 8:20 a.m. when flames erupted from a loading pump in the utility shaft, accompanied by significant smoke. Fortunately, the blaze was confined to a designated area thanks to fire barriers in place, and the platform's automatic deluge system was successfully activated upon detecting smoke. Statoil's emergency response teams from Sandsli and Stavanger were promptly mobilized. Thankfully, no injuries were reported, and by 11:00 a.m., the fire had been successfully extinguished. Fireguard personnel continued to monitor the site thereafter. At the time of the incident, there were 67 individuals on the platform. By 10:00 a.m., 20 workers were safely evacuated by helicopter to the adjacent Statfjord B platform. While production was halted as a precaution, the timeline for restarting operations remains uncertain.
